I have a major case of FOMO (fear of missing out). If a book keeps getting posted and folks keep saying things like “Girl this one right here”. I get super curious and usually end up checking it out. Its also how I spent six hours watching Tiger King. Foolishness. But nevertheless, my FOMO will always draw me in.
So I kept seeing folks post about An Illicit Seduction by Chencia C. Higgins. Dark cover, large bold letters, and I was like, “Oh here we go, a sex book” and based on the description, I was like, yup. But then I read it. I. Was. Not. Prepared.
Lemme tell y’all. So the book’s lead characters are Sephra and Damon. They are co-workers, but Sephra has a higher-level position than Damon. They have lunch together occasionally, but it’s pretty clear that from her end, the relationship is platonic. But from Sephra’s friends and co-workers’ point of view, it’s obvious that there’s something going on. Then one night, a mutual co-worker has a Pajama Party where things definitely go to the next level. No surprise there, right? WRONG!
Whatever you thought this was, it is NOT. Here you are, imagine a story of intrigue and seduction and passion! But that’s not what this story is completely about. Yes, there is passion and seduction, but it’s in this unnatural, animalistic, magnetic way. Sephra literally has NO. CONTROL. She knows she doesn’t want to, but she can’t help but be drawn to Damon. She can’t stop having sex with him despite knowing she shouldn’t. And all the reasons she has for not being with him, seem to disappear the moment he’s within reach.
This is where the story takes a turn. I’ve read plenty of stories where there is resistance and friend-zoning and buddy-to-lovers, but this was not that! I highly encourage you to read this one! It’s plot twist is unexpected and there are plenty of shock-worthy moments!
*Not for the faint at heart. Its a grown up’s book. So take notice.
